Mogadishu University’s student union elects new leadership

Mogadishu University student election commission announced the results of the student body elections shortly after polls held on Monday in Main campus yaqshid.
Eight candidates from different faculties were running for four positions: president, vice president, chairperson of executive body and deputy chair.
After student Council representatives cast their ballots, the results were released by Dr.Mohamed Nasir who presided over student election commission, reading out the elected members in a brief ceremony held in the main campus.
Mohamed Mahad, a third year student majoring in economics was elected as president of Mogadishu University’s Student union to serve for the next academic year 2022-2023.
Mohamed Mahad garnered 32 votes against his rival Abdullahi Osman who got 14.
“I am happy to be part of this transformation that is taking place at Mogadishu University” Mahad said shortly after his victory was announced by the election commission.
On the other hand, Mohamed Mahad as the new leader of Mogadishu University’s Student Union appreciated members of the Union who elected him and promised to create new chapter and interlinkage among students.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
MU president Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal who received the victorious team had sent his congratulations to the elected leaders of the student union.

My compliments to you for being elected as new leaders of the student union after nearly 25 years of existence MU president said.
In congratulating the new team on their recent election, the student affairs director Mr. Muse Ahmed stated that “we are indeed delighted to have this council on board and the new President and Chair of Council, we are ready to support Mr. Mohamed as president of the student union in his new role”.

Importance of the student election
Muse added that the student union is important for building up student leadership and helps students build skills that can bring to future career opportunities, underlining that formation of the student union at MU is long awaited.
Student representatives generally serve for a period of one year from 22 March to February.

This collaboration visit was an important step towards strengthening the academic ties between Mogadishu University and Kenyatta University. It laid the foundation for future collaborations and provided valuable insights into the successful practices and initiatives implemented by our partner institution. We look forward to further expanding our partnership with Kenyatta University and exploring new avenues for joint academic endeavours.

Mogadishu University Celebrates World Press Freedom Day with a Green Initiative

Mogadishu, Somalia – In honor of World Press Freedom Day 2024, focused on “A Press for the Planet,” students from the Department of Journalism and Communication at Mogadishu University have taken a hands-on approach to environmental advocacy by organizing a significant tree planting event. The activity took place on the university’s main campus, where students, faculty, and community members came together to plant a variety of local tree species. The department also arranged workshops and speeches that discussed the critical role of journalists in environmental advocacy, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting and active involvement in global sustainability efforts. Mogadishu University continues to demonstrate its dedication to combining education with practical environmental actions, hoping to inspire other institutions and individuals to take similar steps towards a sustainable future. 56th Session of The General Conference of The Association of Arab Universities

The University of Baghdad in Iraq hosted 56th Session of General Conference of The Association of Arab Universities. The conference focused on crucial topics including strengthening support for the research and innovation as well as establishment and announcement of the Arab Higher Education Zone project under the umbrella of the Association of Arab Universities. Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, participated in the conference. During this significant event, the president had the opportunity to engage with rectors from various Arab universities and representatives of other esteemed institutions. In addition, the president signed bilateral agreements with several Iraqi and other Arab Universities including University of Mosul, – University Of Al-Hamdaniya, – University Of Samarra, Aliraqia university, Southern Technical University and Al-Mustaqbal University Mogadishu University is committed, in line with its internationalization agenda, to cooperate with international institutions to strengthen research, quality education, and innovation.
