Mogadishu University Celebrates World Press Freedom Day with a Green Initiative

Mogadishu, Somalia – In honor of World Press Freedom Day 2024, focused on “A Press for the Planet,” students from the Department of Journalism and Communication at Mogadishu University have taken a hands-on approach to environmental advocacy by organizing a significant tree planting event. The activity took place on the university’s main campus, where students, faculty, and community members came together to plant a variety of local tree species.

The department also arranged workshops and speeches that discussed the critical role of journalists in environmental advocacy, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting and active involvement in global sustainability efforts.

Mogadishu University continues to demonstrate its dedication to combining education with practical environmental actions, hoping to inspire other institutions and individuals to take similar steps towards a sustainable future.

Collaboration Visit to Kenyatta University: Strengthening Academic Ties

A delegation from Mogadishu University embarked on a visit to Kenyatta University, one of our esteemed strategic partners. The purpose of this visit was to enhance regional collaborations, foster joint research initiatives, facilitate student and faculty exchanges, and promote the exchange of best practices in higher education. During their visit, the MU team had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Kenyatta University’s main campus. They were given a comprehensive tour, which included visits to key facilities such as the International Programs and Collaboration office, as well as the Department of Educational Communication and Technology. This collaboration visit was an important step towards strengthening the academic ties between Mogadishu University and Kenyatta University. It laid the foundation for future collaborations and provided valuable insights into the successful practices and initiatives implemented by our partner institution. We look forward to further expanding our partnership with Kenyatta University and exploring new avenues for joint academic endeavours.

56th Session of The General Conference of The Association of Arab Universities

The University of Baghdad in Iraq hosted 56th Session of General Conference of The Association of Arab Universities. The conference focused on crucial topics including strengthening support for the research and innovation as well as establishment and announcement of the Arab Higher Education Zone project under the umbrella of the Association of Arab Universities. Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, participated in the conference. During this significant event, the president had the opportunity to engage with rectors from various Arab universities and representatives of other esteemed institutions. In addition, the president signed bilateral agreements with several Iraqi and other Arab Universities including University of Mosul, – University Of Al-Hamdaniya, – University Of Samarra, Aliraqia university, Southern Technical University and Al-Mustaqbal University Mogadishu University is committed, in line with its internationalization agenda, to cooperate with international institutions to strengthen research, quality education, and innovation.

Bilateral Collaborations Between Uşak University in Turkiye and Mogadishu University are accelerating

The bilateral cooperation protocol between Uşak University and Mogadishu University, along with both institutions’ commitment to internationalization, has paved the way for intensified collaborative efforts. As part of this endeavor, Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, and Dr. Daud Ali Aser, Director of International Relations, paid a visit to Uşak University. During their visit, President Dr. Mursal and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş, Vice Rectors, General Secretary, and International Relations Coordinator. The meeting, held at the Rectorate Office, focused on exploring avenues to strengthen bilateral collaborations for the mutual benefit of both institutions. Following the productive discussions, Rector Prof. Dr. Savaş accompanied President Mursal and his delegation to the Senate Hall. There, they met with faculty deans, vocational school directors, and research center directors from Uşak University. President Mursal and Rector Prof. Dr. Savaş provided an overview of their respective universities’ structures and highlighted the opportunities available to students. The deans and directors, in turn, presented information about their faculties, schools, and centers, emphasizing their willingness to collaborate with their counterparts at Mogadishu University. During the visit, President Mursal and his delegation also had the opportunity to meet Somali students studying at Uşak University. Subsequently, they were given a comprehensive tour of the university facilities, including the conference and culture centers, Leather Textile and Ceramic Design and Application Center, the Main Library, sports facilities, and the Dentistry Hospital of the Faculty of Dentistry. This visit marks a significant milestone in the deepening partnership between Uşak University and Mogadishu University, fostering increased collaboration and promoting cultural and educational exchange between the two institutions.
